2023 in numbers

With 2023 concluded, it’s time to reflect. Metric-wise (continuing my tradition), the year went as follows. As of now, first week of January 2024, my publications reached ~6700 citations according to Google scholar (vs. ~5500 at this time last year/ 4200 two years ago/ 3100 three years ago/ 2100 four years ago/ 1400 five years ago). So growth has slowed a bit, but so far I’m hoping to reach the 2022 citations numbers when some missing citations are added for 2023. Google scholar currently lists ~105 publications (vs. 95 last year, most peer-reviewed), and 3 US patents and several pending ones. Our first GPS paper currently has 677 cites (after 581 last year), in total 18 papers have >100 cites. My h-index has increased to 42 (from 39, my i10-index is currently 72, from 65 last year. Two of Alessandro’s papers won best paper awards.

Semantic scholar lists 5040 citations and 108 publications. They still indicate how many papers were strongly influenced by my work (377), compared to 332 in previous year. They don’t list which authors were most influenced any more. I supposedly had more than 200 co-authors overall.

Scopus lists 89 publications, ~3576 citations, h-index 30, number of co-authors: 165 (147 last year). Overall they seem to have index around half of the number of documents that Google scholar has access to.

In 2023, I chaired events WiSec, and I continued to serve as area editor for IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security (T-IFS), the highest ranked security journal.

Other numbers for 2023: Github lists 83 commits to repositories, lower than 2022 as project Kamaeleon is concluded. I received 10800 mails on my university accounts (after removal of spam). Per working day, that would make around 43 (previous year: 41) mails. I sent 1540 mails (~6 per working day, last year 7). Both numbers are quite close to 2022, even though I chaired Wisec.

My twitter account currently follows 119, has 426 followers. I set up a mastodon accound at well ( https://infosec.exchange/@notippenhauer), but am not very active there.

My total Youtube stats: 336h of watchtime on ~65 videos total (most from the lectures I gave in ‘20-‘22). 23 subscribers. Apart from video of keynote talks, other videos are private, so I won’t share them here.
